Astaxanthin is nature's own super antioxidant. The body receives effective protection from astaxanthin against cellular oxidative stress directly between the fat layers of the cell membrane. Astaxanthin has been calculated to be a clearly more effective antioxidant than vitamin C. Resistance is of course one thing that can be effectively boosted, but in addition, the joints may benefit from astaxanthin, e.g. in cases of osteoarthritis. The positive effects of the super antioxidant have also been studied in relation to vision and general endurance.
Natural sources of astaxanthin are e.g. shellfish and salmon. This is because they eat the Haematococcus pluvialis algae, which is rich in astaxanthin.
